GATE 5 – Bringing the issue of tolerance to the forefront

IMG_4071A few days ago the 5th GATE (Gender, Activism, Tolerance, Equality) youth camp was concluded. This annual camp is held since 2011, and aims to empower community leaders and activists, who would raise gender issues and civil society problems, and try to solve them and promote the civic activism and human rights in Armenia.

The participants of the camps came from Yerevan and different regions of Armenia, cities and villages of Goris, Meghri, Sevan, Ttu Jur, Janfida, Ararat, Areni, Alaverdi. During the 5 days participants shared their experiences, discussed topics such as stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination, democracy and civil society, art and activism, sexuality and gender equality, leadership, communication, project development and management. During the camp the participants had the opportunity to meet specialists engaged in the sphere, (women rights defenders, journalists, environmentalists and human rights defenders), who shared their experience, knowledge and skills, answered questions of participants’ concerns.

Participants of GATE youth camp prepared 3 social ads during the camp, to show their protest and concern on intolerance and prejudice.
