On December 2, the US-based Equality Armenia organization held a fundraising event to donate to Pink Armenia, and on February 26 handed over $2500 to support an online fundraising campaign, the aim of which is to create communities in the regions.

A number of prominent Armenian-American artists, community leaders, and officials have been present at the event in Pasadena. Entertainment for the guests was provided by eight comedians; Movses Shakarian, who is also Armenia’s Community Outreach Director of Equality Armenia, Mary Basmadjian, a member of the board of the organization, Pete Zias, Jan Davidson, Jacqueline Primrose Monahan, Brad Loekle, Stepan Partamian and Amy Shuklian.

In his speech, Executive Director of the organization Armen Abelyan spoke about the importance of raising the visibility of the Armenian LGBT community and supporting the programs aimed at this goal, noting that they should be one of the first people to think about the problems existing in Armenia.

Honorable guest of the evening, California Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, speaking about the importance of helping the communities in need, encouraged all Armenians, and especially senior officials, to support the LGBT community and speak up about their problems.
